DESCRIPTION: EPW - Barwise, London, free-sprung lever fusee with helical hairspring, 44mm, 18K gold OF original case bearing London hallmarks for 1842, "L C" marking in cameo for casemaker Louis Comtesse, signed gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, KWKS, fully capped lever escapement with free-sprung balance having helical hairspring, 17J, gilt mvt, s#11/661 with matching serial number to cuvette. Gross weight of assembled watch 43.8 dwt (68.1 g). Comes as pictured with a fitted box marked for watchmaker Thomas Middlemass of Edinburgh.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some fine scratches to main plate, some ultra-fine scratch striations to main plate likely from a past light wiping; dial with hl above seconds-register, light hl between 11 and center, very short perimeter hl outside minute chapter at 1:30; excellent hands; case shows medium wear, few small nicks to bezel, no dents or dings, reduced engine turning detail with full loss through rear shoulder, cuvette with profuse fine scratches from past key slips; bow pivots freely, thinned at top, and with ample play within pendant sockets; good glass crystal. Box in poor condition, rear of lower portion is detached leaving the top and bottom currently only held together by the inner silk liner, exterior with moderate wear and areas of finish loss, area of loss to upper portion at latch position.
